Tropoi

Discover the Auditory Traditions of the Near East

About Us

We are immigrants to New Zealand, bringing with us the rich tradition of modal music from the Near East. Tropoi offers authentic auditory experiences, allowing you to explore this vibrant and often under-represented musical heritage.

Our music celebrates the intricate melodic themes found in makams, dastgāhs, and dromoi, akin to Western scales. The name "Tropoi" is inspired by the musical scales of Byzantine chant, celebrated for their harmonious and resonant qualities.

Our Music

At the heart of Tropoi's immersive experience is the ancient practice of pure intonation, a system where musical pitches are derived from natural harmonic frequencies. This method creates melodies that resonate deeply within the human body, fostering a profound sense of relaxation and connection.

By blending pure, enharmonic sounds with unique rhythms and traditional instruments, Tropoi offers a genuine sonic journey that transports you to the Near East.
